Workshop Three: 9th-11th March 2012
Alice Vander Vennen
Finding a New Story: Working with Textiles and Found Objects
If these stones could talk…if these fabrics could tell where they have been. Each journey has its own story; each story has its own truth. In this workshop we will juxtapose the textures and colours of textiles with the shape and retained history of found objects until a new story emerges. Alice will lead you to explore the intriguing process of juxtaposing textiles, natural and found objects into your own surprising and compelling
sculpted pieces of framed art. Participants are encouraged to bring a variety of fabrics, both new and old, as well as found objects such as stones, buttons and scraps of metal to incorporate into the art piece. Students are also encouraged to bring a sewing machine. Supplied kit includes a variety of fabrics, threads, copper, wire and frame and framing materials. Kit fee: $20
