Workshop Four: 20th – 22nd April 2012
Johnnene Maddison
Thread Drawings with Aquabond
Whether you are silly or serious, Aquabond is the right material for creating unusual sketches which artist Johnnene Maddison calls Thread Drawings. Using your own sketches, tiny snippets of fabric andfree motion machine sewing, unique pictures can be
created that appear to float away from the canvas on which they are applied. Your drawings may be whimsical, colourful and childlike or detailed landscapes, seascapes or interiors. Composition, colour placement and line will be discussed as well as techniques for mounting your finished pieces on canvas. Students will learn several practical applications for using Aquabond as a warm up exercise before starting the thread drawings. Knowledge of free motion machine stitching is required.
